I'm trying to port my old sfmarkers~ external to ARM and just noticed it doesn't work for AIFF files since some Max versions.

I does work with Max8.1.11 but not with 8.3.3 and later (on intel, 64bits).

As far as I still understand my 20+ years old code,  the call to 

 pointer in the _sndfileinfo structure, even if markers are present in the soundfile.

Did something change in  sndfile_info() between Max8.1 and Max8.3?

I'm writing my external object in C hoping to receive any message(even with spaces in it) and transfer the message into one string so that I can do data process in C. I have looked at some chapters in MaxAPI  and did some test. Seems max likes to take the message and transfer into atoms which I do not need. I just need the raw data. Can anyone help? Thanks~

I've made such great progress on my externals that I'm ready to try some cross platform support! First step, get Min to build on MacOS. I'm very unfamiliar with MacOS ecosystems, so I was hoping the initial steps here would be easy. That doesn't seem to be the case.

I'm on a MacBook Pro, 2020, Apple M1, maxOS Monterey 12.2.1

* Install Xcode from the Appstore. Done. (whew)

* Go to the Package Manager in Max and install Min-Devkit. Done

* Launch Min-Devkit from Package Manager, click Create a Package, press the big button, enter a name.

min.project: A problem occurred trying to create the new package

So... let's try cloning from github, and following the directions 

* Delete the min-devkit folder that Package Manager installed.

git clone https://github.com/Cycling74/min-devkit.git --recursive. 

* mkdir build -> cd build -> cmake -G Xcode .. -> "error. unknown command Cmake."

* cmake -G Xcode .. -> This time it tries do do something. But it fails per the image below.

I have attached the two logs suggested as well.

Any advise would be much appreciated. Looking forward to be able to share my work with my Mac-using colleagues. Thanks!

I've made such great progress on my externals that I'm ready to try some cross platform support!  First step, get Min to build on MacOS.  I'm very unfamiliar with MacOS ecosystems, so I was hoping the initial steps here would be easy.  That doesn't seem to be the case.

Nevermind!   I searched some of the errors in the log and found this page:

after i ran the command below min built happily.

Building Min on MacOS:  No CMAKE_C_COMPILER could be found.

To brush up a bit my C++ knowledge and out of curiosity I started to dip my toes into the Min-Devkit.

As a starting project I chose to work on a new implementation of an object to connect to the ENTTEC DMX USB Pro, because it has a simple serial API and offers some interesting possibilities like multithreading, concurrency etc. One object I am working on is called [jam.dmxusbpro].

As part of the project I want to allow only one instance of  [jam.dmxusbpro] to be able to open a serial port to an  ENTTEC DMX USB Pro. 

The way implemented this is by creating a separate device manager class - a singleton - that tracks which devices are opened by which instance of  [jam.dmxusbpro] . That works fine between objects off the same class.

As a second step I am creating another object, called  [jam.dmxusbpro~] that allows to control DMX channels with MSP signals.

However, my approach of using a singleton device manager class only works within instances of the same Max object not between  [jam.dmxusbpro] and   [jam.dmxusbpro~].

Is there a way to share data between different Max objects using the Min-DevKit?

PS: I am working on MacOS and am using the POSIX termios API to open the serial ports.

PPS: Min-DevKit is a great addition!! It got me started very fast and is easily accessible for me who's working more in other languages and has a quite basic experience with C and C++.

Greetings, I would like to use Max SDK to create a family of objects with the naming convention MyFamily.MyName.

Similar to the zl family, or the dict family, etc.

This convention appears to be the default for Min Devkit. But for these objects I need to do some UI things that I don't believe are currently possible with MIN (as far as I can tell). I believe it is possible to use this naming convention with Max SDK as well because I have seen it in some of the packages availabel in the package manager.

However, I can't seem to figure out how to do it. The object gets it's name from the filename of the .c file, but within the c file we have to define a struct, msg handlers, etc., that all require the name of the object as well. But these cannot have periods in them.

Can anyone provide any guidance on how this naming convention can be achieved?

Okay, i found some examples of this in the gl folder of the MaxSDK examples.  It looks like they are using underscores in place of periods in the .c file.  I tried doing a find replace to do that throughout my file, and it's still not working.   Curious if anybody is aware of any gotchas that I might be missing here.

It turns out when you're declaring the new class you use a string that has to match the filename.  Everywhere else, you can use any value you want as long as it's consistent.  Progress.  Yay!



You should be good if folder/filename and the actual class name in class_new() in your main method are matching. Your function names and so on do not have to match exactly.
