In the screenshot, I'm using 900 for the carrier freq and 800 for the Harmonicity val with mod and amp envelopes, and the sound is  sort of a noisy percussion sound.  

I'm trying to reproduce this sound in FM8 ( or in any FM synth ) with a simple 2 operator config ( one operator modulating a carrier ) but not having any luck getting a similar sound.  I'm not sure what to use for the Carrier and Modulator ratios ( am using 1.00 for Carrier ratio and 0.88 for the Mod ratio ( 800 / 900 ) but probably don't understand  how this works. ).   I'm approximating the Mod and Amp envelopes in FM8.  

Would this be possible in FM8 ( or any other FM synth)?  Thanks for any help!

There's recently been a discussion of the efficiency of multiple dac~ objects, here: 

Someone said that it doesn't matter how many dac~ objects you use, because it all gets compiled down...

Question 1: is this the same with multiple adc~s? I've dropped in an adc~ object just above wherever i need one, (e.g. above a record object) and now i'm worried that it's inefficient. Is it more efficient to have one adc~ with send~s and receive~s? Or is an adc~ object already the equivalent of a receive~ from something central behind the scenes?

Question 2: is it the same for midi inputs becoming max events? is it more efficient to have one midi'in object sending and receiving around your patch, or several midi'ins dotted around? same thinking - is each midi'in really its own midi-event-watcher, or is there some kind of a central one in max that all midi'in objects share?

NB i'm talking about send/receive here & not patch cords, because I have several patches using the same main audio and midi i/o patch, not all of which are open all the time.

hope you can help - i have a performance in a week and i need to make my (big) patch as efficient as i can!

ok, so here's my current challenge: build a system that calculates an integer which is divisible (in a whole number) from six adjustable integers (for evil rhythmic purposes!)

I've rigged up a cute implementation this morning, but it's slow (being based around a trial and error counter object) and is probably one bang short of a stack overflow; so I'm looking for any suggestions as to a more efficient way of doing this, possibly from an algebraic perspective.

Hi. I am looking for any way to get data out of a dict and into number boxes.

I need to use all the data that is under the "body" tab in "dict data 1", but when I send a "get body" message it just outputs "body dictionary u429010261" rather than the actual data in the "body" key. I also tried using array stuff with it but that didn't work either. Any help would be super appreciated, thanks!

hey. i was wondering if there is a way to vertically align (or to right-align, that would be nice too) text in a text edit box. I tried making the box really skinny so that there is only room for one letter at a time but it looks really ugly and confusing when you try to edit it. I am trying to label the different columns of a matrix so that the user can rename each column.

I'm preparing a live performance using the pattrstorage object to store track list numbers (integers) for audio files and (floats) values for sine wave parameters. I've created a patch where integer objects use 'interp off' or 'thresh 1.' to store track numbers from a folder without interpolation, and float objects use linear interpolation for sine wave control. The problem is that when I recall stored values with interpolation, my sfplay~ object (same issue with groove~) produces audio glitches. It seems to trigger all the time the sfplay~, even when I set the integer object to 'interp off' or 'thresh 1. 

 Any idea how can I prevent these audio glitches during parameter interpolation recall?  Thanks!!!!

Max starts very slow on Windows 10 and 11. I try different machines, decent hardware e.g. AMD 5700U, 16 GB RAM. fast NVMe SSD. Other software behaves generally as expected. Disabling the "Virus &Threat Protection" did not help. I see nothing special in the processes, no excessive load on CPU. It takes minimum 35 seconds to start. It is empty Max of course, no patches loaded. Plugins scanning preferences set to "minimal/fast". I do not know what else I could optimize. Anybody else with that problem?

PS. On my MB Air M1 with only 8 GB RAM it is almost instantly up and ready (<1 s).
