 is end of life since long. The goto solution for using a DMX USB Pro recently was using the serial object directly.

I wanted to start learning to write Max externals, and I chose to create an external for the DMX USB Pro.

A beta version of the package is available here:

 for sending and receiving DMX data from the interface  and

 for use with audio signals (sending DMX data only).

To install, download and unpack the zip package and copy it to the Max Packages folder. On first load of the externals Max might ask you to remove the quarantine attribute. Just confirm and continue (I don't have a paid Apple developer account, that's why). 

The externals are compiled for MacOS 10.15 and later and should load on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs.

Looking forward for feedback and if there is interest in continuing this little project also collaborators are very welcome!

I have a few patches, that I have used for a decade, where Thomas Grills ancient xsample is a key object. The routine of getting the xsample-objectmappings.txt in the right place is a routine I have gone through at every update since Max 4.5 but now with Max 8 it doesn't work anymore. Any ideas more than welcome, be it alternative objects or workaround to get xsample in working condition

I want to simultaneously change the key of all of my audio clips in Ableton's clip view.

I've tried selecting all the clips and midi mapping the transpose dial. However, whenever you trigger a different audio clip, Ableton will transpose THAT clip instead of all of them.

It only transposes whichever transpose dial is on top. I don't know how to make sure that the grouped transpose option is always on top...

This is an FM kick for use inside poly. I'm using phasor driven cos~s here instead of cycle~s so that the modulating oscillators remain consistent between bangs. When testing inside the patch phasor phase reset works properly but, using it within poly, phase sometimes seems to fail to reset or resets to a wrong value (the mistake persists for a while).

I wonder what could be the issue here or if there is an alternative method to using phasor->cos?

I'm trying to slice a sample based on transient detection. I currently have a gen~ patch (attached) that detects transients and their position in samples (using accum). 

What I'm struggling to do right now is to tie it to a groove~ position (from 0. to 1.) I've tried using delta~, but I get a lot of noise when I try to move it from MSP to Max world.

So, ideally, I would like to store indexes (slice numbers) inside coll, where each row will contain slice number and position in range of 0. to 1. (rather than in samples).

Hey, I have strange problem, when I enter a fullscreen of jit.window on extended monitor, or projector, window disappear and max goes freez and crash. Main laptop display works fine. When I switch projector as main display, and laptop display as secondary, window crashes on laptop display. Nvidia graphic driver is updated. Thank you very much for every idea.

I know it gets brought up every once in a while, but I thought I'd post again to see what the interest was out there for getting Max working in Linux.

I jump between Mac, Winows, and Linux (Ubunutu) fairly regularly as no single OS can do everything I need under one roof. I teach at a university in physics and recording arts where I use Max, Wavelab, Nuendo, and Live extensively for demonstrations and PowerPoint/Keynote for presenting. I also run a recording/mastering/post studio where I again use Nuendo & Wavelab. But I also run an acoustic R&D company where I use Solidworks, QCAD, and a few other drawing/modeling tools. And lastly I head up an interdisciplinary research collective that mostly uses Max, but also vvvv, Processing, TouchDesigner, Quartz Composer, etc.

But I'm finding that I prefer Linux above Windows and Mac more and more for the sheer speed, customization, and adaptability even though it's by far the least supported for applications which really bums me out. While I'm a big supporter of open source I'm also happy to pay for good commercial software like Max. i just wish Max, and a few others, would run on Linux.

Max is one of the biggest hangups for me to not spend almost all of my time in Linux. PD is a great program, no doubt, but I rely on a lot of the awesome and amazing externals out there and the great Max community (along with a number of other reasons). Even getting Max to run under Wine would be OK, though native support would be much more preferable. But the iLok stuff only works on Mac/Win, even though I use the software key/internet activation.

So I'm interested if there's any other folks out there in the same boat as myself. I know Linux support is a low priority for most commercial companies that are trying squash bugs and be innovative, but I feel like Ubuntu and other flavors are on the rise and have some very cool potential in the multimedia realm (but that could also be just because I've been getting more into it personally). If there's enough of us requesting maybe we could see a Linux release in the future! Anyone else interested in seeing this happen?
