Is Max 8 Going to Have the Same Crap Internet-Only Authorisation ??

It does me head in on Max 7 having to connect to the web every six months, because my Mac Pro is too heavy to lug to an internet café, and i haven't been able to find a way to do an offline authorisation. I'm left only having an authorised laptop after 6 months. So boring.

Come on you lot. Not everyone has an iPhone grafted to their left palm. Just cos we use computers don't mean we want to be all friendly and connected with the whole world 24-7.

I do not understand that sales model ontologically.

This thing, this "good", belongs to you forever, "but I (the company) have to exist to activate it again every six months at the most, again and again.

I still use software from companies that no longer exist ...

If Cycling74 (and the demiurge does not want it) will cease to exist, the servers will be there forever, or those who paid for the Max 7 (for ever, no restrictions) would see it vanish in an instant.

It is a more extreme position of the concept of property.

You pay now, for something that ultimately is not yours forever.

The level of distrust is unhealthy, this was seen with the issue of the license change in Gen.

The product is excellent and the community marvelous, one understands that the companies try to stay afloat but they should see this question again.

And ultimately, this type of issues puts them in the sights of crackers and all kinds of "bad guys".

Max is in itself a tool and a work of art, and art and extreme control do not work together.

Hopefully find a better way.

I definitely agree Barbara, i actually did a quick search for torrents when they announced 7 and the dreaded copy-protection. At the time i did not find any max6-torrent, all results were from max4/5.

So yeah, i really wonder if it's worth all the hassle (for both the company and as stated above us consumers).

(a workaround for the inevitable shutdown could be to have an empty patch with a js-object but you do need some amazing javascript skills to make it work though lol)

Agreed, authorization that expires every 6 months is more than just problematic it can be a royal pain in the ass. We "air gap" our workstations for a variety of reasons, having to make a system safe for internet connectivity just so one can reactivate a license is BS.

Hi everyone. For anyone who requires an offline solution for permanent authorization, we do support iLok. Just contact us in support and we're happy to move it over for you.

What a nice surprise!

Do you support iLok disk authorization so we don’t need a physical dongle?
