Jit.movie playback performance issues, and soundtrack pitch with rate
Hi All, I'm so frustrated. I teach max. One project involves simply mapping microphone volume (peakamp~) to the playback speed of a video. This required simple video compression, so we used photo jpg compressed video, and it worked really well. Especially in the qt engine, but avf worked well enough. Very responsive, and qt engine with pjpg encoded movies could scrub to random frames at 100fps.
Now I'm in max 8 and photo jpg performs really poorly. So ok, we use Hap instead. It plays forward fast but it does not scrub very well at all to random frames, and changing the playback speed seems very laggy. It also doesn't change the pitch of the videos audio track. Is it just assumed that nobody will ever want to hear the pitch of the audio change with the playback speed?
There are a lot of great things about max 8 but high speed random access to frames in a video file is seriously degraded from previous versions.
1. Is there any way to make jit.movie alter the pitch of the soundtrack of a video when the playback rate changes?
2. What's the best possible way to get responsive high performance scrubbing and speed changes on video playback?
Many thanks. -Tinapple
have you tried the viddll engine?
Hi LSKA, yes, I've tried VIDDL, it's OK. It does solve the sound speed-pitch problem as it changes the pitch when you change the rate of the movie. But when randomly requesting frames I can get maybe 20fps, which is several times slower than the QT engine which no longer works. VIDDL also seems to get stuck in strange loops and glitches out when changing the rate around too much.
