 there is mentioned a "value" attribute.  Can anyone share some additional detail on what this attribute is and what it does?

I discovered that it only works if the type is set to "number".  Otherwise it returns a funky compiler error. 

To my knowledge, pattr can handle all the attributes of an object, including attributes of any type.  Not simply number attributes called "value."  So I don't understand what this attribute would be used for.

I am writing a UI object, and I'd like to persist a string between sessions.  Save the string with the patch, and recall the saved string on load.

I think the "savestate" message would be ideal for my purpose.  But I also discovered that "savestate" doesn't work with UI objects.  So I thought maybe persisting the string through pattr using this "Value" attribute might be possible.  But I'm not really understanding what this is or how it works.

Ideally the string would be internal to the object, and so not externally represented as an attribute, but at this point I'm willing to consider anything.  

In the Min Devkit docs there is mentioned a "value" attribute.  Can anyone share some additional detail on what this attribute is and what...

I'm using the RNBO export function and the VCV rack SDK to translate my RNBO patches into Rack modules. I'm trying to hack a little bit into the system (module.cpp, rnbo_source.cpp and others) in order to be able to control the appearance of the final module directly from the parameters or in/outlets metadata field. 

The issue is that there is no implementation of the "meta" field in the rnbo c++ export. Well, it does exist in the "description.json", but there is no solution implemented to access it easily, meaning that the field doesn't exit in the "rnbo_source.cpp", neither in the "ParameterInfo" struct in "RNBO_Types.h" :

As these files are generated by RNBO during the export, I cannot modify them in order to have the informations needed. I don't want my first option to be to parse the .json file... Is there any way that I could get the metadata directly from the RNBO export in a way similar to the ParameterInfo struct ?

I'm writing some externals in c++ using the min framework. I want to make an external to be used in a Max4Live patch. The external will take a prompt as input and generate a composition as a responce. The composition should be based on the name of the tracks in the live arrangement (this will tell the model which instruments to write for). Next the score for each track will be placed in midi clips on the relevant tracks.

I'd like to create a custom UI object that has multiple text edit fields.  

Context:  My externals connect to a cloud service to enable access to data from that cloud in Max.  In order to connect we need to gather user auth credentials.  I don't really want to use Max's standard textedit objects for this.  Because distributing patches that pass user's sensitive data trough patch chords seems like a bad idea.  I want to build a custom UI object user's can type into so masked  data remains at the code level and is never accessible in the patch itself.

 example in the Max SDK.  I can definitely use this as a starting point.  It will be easy to modify this to mask the data onstream, and pass the the user input to other objects using the notification system so it's never exposed in the patcher itself.   I could use 2 or more objects based on uitextfield to compose a bpatcher that will serve as my Authentication screen.

Problem:  It would be better for the Auth Screen to be a single Max object.  The default textfields are fairly nondescript.  If I distribute my patcher, a nefarious actor could swap out my custom textfields with some other textfields.  The auth screen would look unchanged, but the user has just typed their credentials into an illegitimate input field.

The Question:  I'm not seeing a way to include multiple textfields in a single object.  In fact, making an object a textfield seems to overwrite most of paint's other functions.  Is there a way to compose a UI objects from multiple component UI Objects?  Or a different way to get multiple textfields into my object?

I'm aware that instead of using textfields I could paint text directly and repaint based on the key methods.  But this results in some behaviour that don't feel natural (like being unable drag over and highlight the text).  I would like this auth solution to appear to be as seemless and native as possible.

MAX SDK: UI Object with Multiple Textedit fields?

I'm working on a package of externals in MIN.  It's been going great.  But now I want to do a custom UI object.  Specifically a custom Textfield object.  Support for UI objects, and especially textfield objects, seems a bit limited in MIN.  And there's a readymade example in the Max SDK that would be easy to modify to do what I want.

With the recent changes to Max SDK to unify the build architecture, and since MIN Devkit includes Max SDK, I thought this would be easy to do.   But not only am I finding it not easy, I've been at it for several hours and I can't find a solution.

1)  Paste the contents of the the MaxSDK example into the a .cpp min object.  

The linter is okay with this.  But we have a problem that 	jpatcher_syms_init() is undefined. 

2)  Modify the project's CMakeLists.txt to include jpather_syms.c.  

Now the project will build.  But when I create an instance of the object in Max runtime the object is red.  No error, no debug, nothing.

3) Same as above, but replace the headers with #include c74_min.h, and add "using namespace c74::max;" at the top.

Got the same results.  Object builds, but appears red when used in Max runtime.

3) Try to generate the project as an actual Max SDK Project:

Copy max-sdk-base folder from the MaxSDK package into my package in the same location.

Copy the source code file and CMakeLists.txt from the MaxSDK example.
