Hi! I would like to overlay text on top of a video that is placed in one audio track in ableton live. I already have a device that can do that, but can only be placed in a midi track, so I did a new one using the template of Max audio effect and pasted my device there. Then I made the "draw to" attribute  of the only 2 jit objects I have in the patch to the same name that appears in the top of the window of the video in ableton, because my guess is that that is the name of the gl context. But it´s not working, so my question is if this is the right way to approach this issue.

Hi! I need help to figure out how they make the active knob visible and hide the no active one in the attached patch. I understand the patch logic to hide it but I don´t see how they did in the presentation mode to replace it with the active one. I have been using setdevice messages to do a similar UI effect, but I don´t see how they make it here and it looks more simple than my solution.

I actually would like to have live.numbox instead of knobs, but the UI should be like the patch attached. I would like to have the option of live.numbox with different ranges.

Super newbie here. I have gone through a good amount of the content for learning max for live. Youtube videos. Ableton Lessons through the Ableton Live Application where you can open sets and poke around. The included tutorials that come within max for live. I am not 100% done with it. But I would like to start working towards one of my first ideas. 

Any advice at all is greatly appreciated. How to stay organized. How to plan. Where to find answers. General best practices. Also if you could point me in the direction of any existing max for live devices I can break down and reverse engineer. And objects of note that may help with the building of this device. 

I want to create a device. That basically acts as a random button press. The main idea started from me wanting something to randomly press the capture  button on Granulator III. I want it to randomly press it so that records audio in to Granulator in random spurts. I want to be able to control the rate at which the button is pressed. I want that rate to be independent of the transport and project tempo. In other words not quantized. I want it to based on time in seconds/milliseconds. 

I would like to be able to control the chance of the button press going through or happening. Again I am completely new. So any advice at all is super appreciated.

Hi! I am trying that a max for live device remember the last font pick by the user from an umenu. I have a fontlist object that populates the umenu with the system fonts and I understand that the pattr object initiate before every object is restored, so I guess I am not getting the last picked font because fontlist is replacing the font stored by the pattr. I tried adding a delay after live.device to trigger pattr but it is not working. Pattr parameter mode is enabled and visibility is set to stored only.

Hi! I am creating a series of M4L devices that use the same open gl context name. The context name is made out of the track id where the devices are sitting.  I have a device that I call "source" which is the one with the jit.world, and when I place this device alone in a track in Ableton, the jit.world window have the name of the context correct, and when I add the other devices to the same track, they all project into the same jit.world window. The problem comes when I close ableton project and open it again, then the jit.world window have a u<random number> type of name. I delete the other devices and the problem is solved. I can´t figure out why that is happening. I attached the source device and the other 2 devices patch.

For a device I am developing I need to route the rotatexyz data so the user can have the option of moving a text display with jit.gl.text clicking and dragging with the mouse, or by typing the desired coordinates in a live.numbox. I manage to do it with the position of the jit.glhandle, but can't figure out with the rotatexyz attribute. I can send messages to the handle with a $1 and change each coordinate independently but when typing in x and then in y, x becomes 0 again.

 I am developing 2 max for live devices, one to control video clips playback, and another to overlay pictures on top of the video of the 1st device. They both share the same open GL context name base on the track id where the device is sitting. I manage to overlay the pictures but they appear as a black square. I experiment with the depth and blend attributes but none seems to make any difference, because the black square is always there.

I am trying to organize the objects of a max for live device that are already mapped in ableton move when the move is in control live mode. I would like certain objects in the device in certain banks in the move. In max, I can order the objects parameters, but they simply appear in sequence, so if I want only 3 knobs in the bank 1, I can´t jump to the next bank making the next object #9, because it will appear after the 3rd nob in the move. I see there´s a 

 object to deal with something like that, but that´s for the push. Is there something like that for the move?

the setup I'm working with for a show is comprised of a max patch running alongside a Live session, the max patch sends MIDI and audio to the Live session using Blackhole and inter application MIDI.

I tried to encapsulate the Max patch into a M4L device so that I only open one file for the show and don't have to use Blackhole to pass audio. Everything works except no MIDI is passed from the device to Live. 

I am using ctlout to move Live faders and turn channels on and off.

Do I need to do something in Live preferences or do I need to use m4l specific MIDI objects in the device?

I need the control to remain in the MIDI domain because some of the faders that the patch controls in Live are also controlled by an external hardware MIDI controller

M4L: sending midi from device to Live

the patch I am working display a text through jit.gl.text, that I rotate with the mouse thanks to a jit.gl.handle. I could rotate the text without issues, until I able the output matrix attribute of the jit.world and I added the option to make the window fullscreen. But when I disable output matrix or the window is not fullscreen, it doesn't work again. I save the patch and open it again, and it works. There are some inconsistency in how this object is working, and I can´t find out the reason why.
