Does max have a way of reading multi touch gestures using the new apple external trackpad - or the macbook pro track pad for that matter. i.e. two + fingers at once - controlling parameters?

I know it gets brought up every once in a while, but I thought I'd post again to see what the interest was out there for getting Max working in Linux.

I jump between Mac, Winows, and Linux (Ubunutu) fairly regularly as no single OS can do everything I need under one roof. I teach at a university in physics and recording arts where I use Max, Wavelab, Nuendo, and Live extensively for demonstrations and PowerPoint/Keynote for presenting. I also run a recording/mastering/post studio where I again use Nuendo & Wavelab. But I also run an acoustic R&D company where I use Solidworks, QCAD, and a few other drawing/modeling tools. And lastly I head up an interdisciplinary research collective that mostly uses Max, but also vvvv, Processing, TouchDesigner, Quartz Composer, etc.

But I'm finding that I prefer Linux above Windows and Mac more and more for the sheer speed, customization, and adaptability even though it's by far the least supported for applications which really bums me out. While I'm a big supporter of open source I'm also happy to pay for good commercial software like Max. i just wish Max, and a few others, would run on Linux.

Max is one of the biggest hangups for me to not spend almost all of my time in Linux. PD is a great program, no doubt, but I rely on a lot of the awesome and amazing externals out there and the great Max community (along with a number of other reasons). Even getting Max to run under Wine would be OK, though native support would be much more preferable. But the iLok stuff only works on Mac/Win, even though I use the software key/internet activation.

So I'm interested if there's any other folks out there in the same boat as myself. I know Linux support is a low priority for most commercial companies that are trying squash bugs and be innovative, but I feel like Ubuntu and other flavors are on the rise and have some very cool potential in the multimedia realm (but that could also be just because I've been getting more into it personally). If there's enough of us requesting maybe we could see a Linux release in the future! Anyone else interested in seeing this happen?

Ultimately, I am looking for a way to save my dictionary with a different suffix as the default .JSON

Since 'dict' couldn't do the task and 'coll' can, I found out that I have to go the 'coll' way. I managed to push the information from my dict to a coll. But... I have sub-dictionaries in my main dictionary and do not know how I can get this data saved in my coll as well. Anyone?

I am working with the Matrix Positioning Patch provided in the MAX documentation. The issue at hand is the "Move_Around" Subpatcher. I would like to set the "Source Dimensions" and "Destination Dimensions" so that pixilation is minimized.  Regarding the images fed into the patch, I am using the largest JPEGs possible. I have a basic understanding of how a range might be fed into the random object. Can someone assist with what values I might utilize?

Hi, just wondering if anyone could help me out a little here.

I bought the Launchpad today for a university project thinking it would be a simple MIDI controller that I could use for a max msp patch i'm creating, so using ctlin objects as a switch and ctlout objects to change the LED colours of the buttons. I've read the programmers guide from novation but don't understand it fully. like i said, i thought it would be a simple MIDI controller with simple buttons like most other controllers, but i can't seem to get anything to work. the top row of buttons show MIDI data coming in via the ctlin object hooked up to some number objects, but none of the other buttons seem to work. they all seem to be recognised through automap too.

just to add, i don't want to use max for live for this. it's a university project and i have to use just max msp to create an instrument and perform with it, with the launchpad just adding to the ease of performing with it.

Has anyone managed to get the Fingerpinger external working in Max 8.3?

It seems to still work in 8.1 but doesn't produce any output at all in 8.2 onwards..

The source code is available so there is a chance it could be updated to work on later Max versions but if any Cycling devs have some info on why it wouldn't work, that would be great. It does use the Apple MultitouchSupport framework so maybe that is causing an issue...

I can't seem to find anything about this in the forums, so I'll post it.

Just discovered (through Twitter) a fantastic, little external called Fingerpinger, which basically tracks multitouch data from multitouch trackpads (all later MacBooks and MacBook Pros).

It seems these trackpads can track as many as ten simultaneous points, and Fingerpinger even tracks touch sensitivity.

I just recently realized after much yelling at the computer that max seems to automatically implement measures to prevent feedback loops

however i would like to make a feedback loop

I'm attempting to build a fairly elaborate fm synth with flexible modulation routing

I've attached the maxpat that represents the core of each fm operator as a patch and .png

Everything works great until I attempt to use a matrix for routing or for that matter feed an operator's signal into its modulation input...even using the limiter

Now I have to wonder how the DX7 accomplished this
