I'm a new Max user coming from the Cubase/Reaktor world. I'm starting to grasp the basics a little bit with building in Max For Live - I'm still very new with it. I was finally able to get a simple 3 oscillator mono synth going for my own projects. 

In Reaktor there's several different kinds of Filters that are very well done - like the ladder filter and pro-52 filter. I have noticed in BEAP these kinds of filters are in there but I'm not really interested in a BEAP synthesizer.

My question - Is there a good Moog/Ladder filter out there for core MAX MSP? I don't have the brains to program it myself. I've tried out the default lores and svf filters and they don't sound quite like the way I expected.

I have also sorted through the forums history and it does not appear to be very much information, and the ladder filters posted in the past seems to have been removed.

Below is a snapshot of part of a routine that I have written to send and receive OSC commands between Max and a remote client. It happens to be a Behringer mixer but that aspect is not important to this question:

These messages can be constructed and broken down easily in Max using simple objects such as [join], [combine], [sprintf], [unjoin], etc.

The Sadam objects, on the other hand, use raw OSC blob messages for both send and receive that follow the format:

/address/.../... 0 0 ,xxxxx 0 0 data1 0 0 data2 0 0 data3 0 0 .............. 0 0 data n

where xxxxx indicates a bundle of type identifiers for each data blob, such as {s} for symbol, {f} for float, {i} for integer, etc. - these bundles can be of arbitrary length and include multiple data types. (Note the comma that preceedes this list.)

Each of the data blobs can also be of arbitrary lengths depending on their type, so symbols can be any length in a UTF-8 ASCII format, integers are 4 byte 32-bit signed or unsigned integers, floats are usually signed 4 byte 32-bit values, etc.

They are all seperated by pairs of null bytes ("0 0") that Max really makes heavy weather of!

The only way that I can find so far to convert the formats is to link corresponding Max and Sadam objects via the internal loopback "localhost" (or 127.0.0.1).

There is nothing that I can find (such as in the Sadam, odot or CNMET libraries or via Google searches) that would allow me to convert between the Sadam format and the Max one without me writing my own encoder and decoder, which is obviously possible but, equally, complicated. There's no point in me consuming time on this if there is already a solution out there!

Does anybody know of a library, package or external object/objects that can perform these functions?

I have an audio signal coming from an adc~ object. The signal consists mostly of human voice but can have some hand claps or similar events that create an abrupt change in amplitude. 

I want to filter out those abrupt events from the signal in real-time. (and output it to dac~)

Im wondering why max does this. Ill be working on a patch and I can put a message box underneath an object to see what is coming out, but when I attach to print, nothing.... Its like print just breaks after a while.

It happens so often and is very confusing, I have to restart max in order to get printing again.

I never experienced this kind of problem with [print]. Maybe it's something in the patch? In theory, very high data rate may produce some drops, but - IMHO - more probably it's something related to the patch architecture.


i've experienced this quite a bit and it is annoying.... i did have a conversation about this with c74 in the past, but no real conclusion was reached... all I can say, is that for me, it eventually catches up and the window fills up with everything you've sent it (not ideal i know!)

i've only ever seen this in M4L tho, and mostly in the editor - never seen it in MAX itself... is that the case you you?


Yes, I think Lee you are seeing the same thing as me, occasionally it does catch up and prints things a few seconds/or even minutes after they should have printed, sometimes not at all. It does seem specific to M4L. Im constanly having to close/reopen, quit max start all over again and it really spoils the workflow.


If that's the case you might to try sending your output through a deferlow from js objects into a print - this seems to help - can't remember why originally we thought this might be a solution (I've probably got an email chain somewhere) - kinda makes so sense, but appears to help...


I've intermittently experienced exactly the same behavior: nothing appears in the Max window, then everything appears several minutes later. Only in M4L. Not something that can be reliably reproduced in an example patch. (Unfortunately the js -> deferlow workaround doesn't help in my case)


This is happening to me more and more now. It's the most annoying thing about max - because it's often taken me hours to resolve, and it's hard to see what the fix was?

However, if I use a global send "s printall" from the patch and then setup a new amxd (that is saved and closed) with just a receive "r printall" connected to a print object, I prints just fine.

I get this so often that I completely gave up on using the print object altogether, I did however find that you can sometimes get it working by right clicking the patch cord that goes to the print object and selecting "Add Watchpoint - Monitor"

Something I found more reliable though was using textedit as a print, it's fine if you don't care about line returns:

Hi all. After a long development gap and a complete rewrite, I'm finally close to an initial alpha release for LXMax. For those who are unaware, this is my long-planned project to create a proper patcher-independent DMX support system for Max and a set of external objects that allow lighting control abstracted from DMX entirely. IE, objects that represent lighting fixtures/dimmers directly with their properties as attributes.

The first release will contain the core service and configuration window, Art-Net/sACN support and basic raw DMX input and output objects. See attached screenshot for an idea of the configuration UI.

If you're interesting in helping with alpha testing, please join the discord server below and request access to the private channel. I'm especially interested in people with M1/Apple Silicon Macs as I don't have any access to this type of machine for testing.

Is there a way to filter the list according to wildcards. I'm looking for something I can give an argument like "sym*" and get all the list items that begin with "sym," while excluding all the ones that don't begin with those three characters.

Sprintf can combine components into a single symbol. I'm looking for something that can analyze components of a single symbol and output accordingly.

all the zl stuff appears to operate at the granularity of the symbol itself. It looks like [zl compare] and [zl filter] require an exact match of the symbol. I want to use those functions on part of the symbol.

I suppose I could do it using js. But i was curious if Max offered anything natively that can do this.

Playing [regex] now.  I see that I can output the part of the symbol that matches the expression I give, but I don't see how I can output the WHOLE symbol if part of it matches the expression.
