Hi, new max user, i think some of my frustrations come from wanting to do things in Max the way I used to do them in Reaktor (as context)...anyway looking for advice. I wanted a phasor to be synced to the transport, used the standard delta, edge detection for creating bangs at resets to drive a counter that worked independently, but still synced to the transport. What I wanted to do was read what bar and what beat I was on then modulo the counter with the note division i chose, add all those numbers together to get the current step number in relation to the size set by the user in bars - for example, If i set my midi recording to loop every 2 bars I modulo the current bar over 2, multiply by my note division, then add the current beat multiplied by note divisions to get my starting offset value to add to my counter driving current step from 0. But, the phasor was wildly out of sync. numbers that should reset over the modulo at the same time were sometimes two or three steps behind, the phasor was inconsistently throwing out a 1 at the start instead of starting at 0, and just looking at a counter of the phasor edge detection and transport beat readout it was clear they were operating on much different wavelengths. Wish I had the project to share, it was total spaghetti wires anyway, but with all this possibly being irrelevant, what is the best way to independently clock something that is still synced to the transport?

Edit: also is there a way to hold a calculation from being processed until I receive new numbers at both inlets? Because Im still having this sync problem driving from the metronome. Numebers in modulo are rolling over to 0 before the last numbers have arrived from the previous calculation, even though they should be all arriving simulataneously.

Was trying to improve on my poly sequencer and ran into an issue where poly~ seemingly ignores the contents of notemessages (messages are structured as follows: notemessage - note - list of parameters).

Things stopped working after I wrapped the "noteGen" subpatch (at the bottom) inside of a different poly object. Output messages looks to be the same but poly~ synth no longer gets it.

I'm sharing this issue to make sure I'm not the only one facing it. When using 

 state anymore. This is a new issue from 9.0.5 for me, 9.0.4 works fine. It seems to be a problem with snapshots as well but since I'm not using them, I have not made extensive tests.

I'd like to know if others face the same issue before issuing a bug report.

I'm trying to create a dict of dicts where the key is a float and the value is another dict.  I think I have all the data ready but I have not managed to get it working in pure Max.  

I've uploaded what I'm working on with comments.  My goal is to iterate through each note in a clip and generate a dict of

I think I finally got this working so I removed the half-working version and updated this post.

Setup one track with the M4L MIDI Sender effect.  This track will be your rhythmic controller.  For me, I plan to use a kick drum trigger.

Then on another track, use the attached effect with the same MIDI bus selection as the Sender.  On this track, you can setup your melodic clips.

Once a clip is playing, the effect will parse all the notes and then whenever a note is received from the Sender track, it will play whichever was the relative last note seen.  It will also play that note's duration so you can have various length notes. It also uses the Sender's velocity so you have some live dynamic control.

Finally, I added a "Fudge Factor" which adds milliseconds to the time the triggered note was received so if you play a little before the intended note, it will still catch it.  This is especially useful when trying to trigger the note as the very beginning of the clip.  If you happen to trigger early, it will appear to be at the end of the previous clip, this will nudge it up so that it appears to be at the beginning.

Hopefully that all makes sense.  Thanks again for helping out with all my questions over the last few weeks.

Since I installed Max 8 I cannot use the Reference system anymore. It says that Search is unavailable as Max is rebuilding the database. Restarting Max, rebooting nor leaving Max open for a very long time help.

If Max is rebuilding the database, you should wait until the rebuild has completed. Have you done that, or have you just restarted the minute you saw the error message? Last time that happened to me, I just waited and it worked fine (I needed the rebuild because I'd trashed my Preferences, etc.).

Yesterday I waited for 6 or 8 hours, I'd say that would be enough. 
I just noticed that the search function of the file browser works fine (and very fast!), it's just the Reference search which complains.

Installing Max for the 3rd time solved the problem :-)

Brilliant upgrade btw, I can't believe how much faster everything is now!

Even after multiple uninstalls I'm still experiencing this issue, and can't use the search function at all. Has anyone figured out a direct fix for this issue?

I filed a bug report and after some investigating Cycling 74 sent me a new Node for Max package which solved my problem. I recommend you do the same. Cycling's support is pretty awesome :-)

I want to use pattrmarker in one device that will be loaded in a couple of instances in Ableton. Therefore I want to give every device a unique pattrmarker id consisting of "PattrDevice[Device id]". See the screenshot below.

The pattrmarker object has an inlet stating:

As I've gotten to fight a long time with this problem, and I've just figured out a solution, I write it here to help other people having a similar issue !

 When I build standalones for Windows of some of my patches doing video processing, it happens that they work on some machines and not on others.

Investigating this issue, I've discovered that there is a problem in Max Console saying "Error 126 loading external jit.viddll.engine" (and some other error 126 for other video externals) when I launch the standalone.

In fact, the problem is that these externals (included in Max distribution) are developed on Visual Studio and rely on some DLL (but the error 126 doesn't give this explanation).

 All you have to do is to add msvcp120.dll and msvcr120.dll in the same folder as your standalone.

The attached DLL are working for Max 8.1 (64 bits version). With other versions of Max, you may have to use other versions of the DLL...

PS : it would be nice that Cycling74 developers find a way to include theses files automatically on standalone build.
