I believe that the latest versions can be found on github, although it's not been updated in a while... take a look at https://github.com/tap/TapTools/releases

I have a Mac standalone made with Max 8.2.0 which uses an audio input (actually from loopback) and an external USB camera (to trigger things).

It's working fine. But as it needs to run for a long time (months) in an installation, I would like to launch it automatically when the computer starts up (as a Login item).  This works, but during the startup process, dialog boxes appear asking for permission for "... MSP to capture audio from the microphone." and to "Allow Jitter to capture video". Which need to be clicked on.

I thought that the computer (mac mini running 10.13.4) would learn that it's ok for the app to do this (it appears in and stays in the relevant lists in the Security control panel). but these dialogs appear EVERY TIME. 

Launching the standalone app on my laptop (OS 12.1) displays the same behaviour, so I don't think it's just an OS thing.

I've done this kind of thing before and can't remember ever having this problem.

Interested in resolving this permissions issue also. 

Actually I'm talking to support about it now. 

Going back to Max 8.1.11 and making the standalone with that version solves the problem, - i only have to give permission once, then the computer remembers the permissions. so it seems to be a bug in the newer version(s). I'll post here again when I have more news about it! J



if I recall correctly you can bypass this with an apple developer ID.
Once you have one, you should codesign* the app with a script.

Same thing with my standalone... but i can't use the 8.1.11 because of some objects that have since been updated (ex : mc.resize).
I hope C74 solves this problem in the next release...

You simply need to codesign the standalone app bundle.

when I start Max and open the patch I'm working on, all sliders are not recognized. To get them recognized I have to close the patch, open a new one and open the slider object. Only at this point if I open the previous patch again Max finally recognize the sliders.

As shown in the attached, I generate a list of 0./1. out of a Nodes object. The list is then indexed by a listfunnel object. 
For some reasons, when 1. is generated out of some of the nodes, node 7, for instance, as exemplified, even if the incoming list contains  7 1., the output is 7 0 instead of 7 1. . For different nodes, like node 1 or 8, the process works as expected.
When feeding the listfunnel object with the exact same list as generated by the Nodes object, but "manually" everything works well.

I've spent hours trying to understand why, with 0 success. What happens ? If someone could provide any clue, this would be highly appreciated !

because in max float does not have to be
exactly what it looks like in GUI objects.
In addition, you are generating too many an too fast repeated lists from nodes.
insert zl.change at node output and input,
then to detect which 1 of 16 nodes has mouse over it
use != 0. instead of == 1.

However, the "rounding" issue is still unclear to me:

I see no logical reason to explain the fact that the 7th node outputs a differently rounded number (all the other nodes are exactly the same, at least to my understanding),

In the patch I sent initially  the output list did show the 1. value when mouse was over the 7th node. Why, in MIZU's example, does the exact same Node object would output a different list of values, in the same conditions, and before any further processing. See attached. 

Is it something that one could expect or do I miss something ?

You were sending massive amount of messages
which passed through the list.
And manual manipulation of GUI elements in max is also adding to the problem.
the reason your nodes should output 1.
is setting the coordinates using this :


but one can move you nodes out of perfect position,
which would offset their value.
take a look at different, simplified detector using zl.sort


and also != 0. instead of == 1. if you want to keep listfunnel

I would bang the initialising message for nodes position
after mouse release, to realign them in case they got repositioned.


Could it be : its no pixel in the center of node 7 who gives 1. ? So mouseidle can't go to 1.
and the tragedy of float : == 0. only true when the 64th bit is 0

Well, now I am confused, but the other way round ... ;-)

1. I understand the == /float issue, and that there may be a difference between the float shown in the list and the actual number kept by the computer. Adding the round object just outside Nodes seems to be sufficient to solve the entire issue ?
2. But as far as zl.change is concerned, thinking twice, I may finally miss the point. If I move the curser inside the Nodes object, as it does not move continuously, but only step by step, the list is output without clicking at every move and changes every time anyway. So each output list is different from the previous one. The zl.change step does not add value, if I understand well the purpose of it.

 I don't want to be tiresome, just trying to understand and learn from my mistakes .... you have been very patient and reactive so far, thanks again for that, guys.

You never mentioned if you use that nodes ONLY when mouse

In case you also need clicked output, you will have ever changing float 0. - 1. list output, which if run through round object,
as inserted in MIZU's patch will output whole list on slightest input change.

That's absolutely correct. My apologies. This was probably too obvious for me, as I initially chose Nodes for this very reason ...

And yes, using "print", I can see that Nodes constantly outputs lists even though no change is made. I previously, wrongly, used a simple "button" object to track when Nodes outputs something, and the button blinked only when changes where made. I couldn't see the continuous flow of data with this method (to my credit: that's a bit confusing ....).

I don't want you both to lose more time on this. Thanks to your patience and dedication : I now much better realize the essence of my initial issue, and have a much clearer understanding of what happens "behind the scene" in MAX when I use the Nodes object.
I am sincerely grateful for that.

I see only one problem - one can move nodes from original position.
You can solve that by repositioning the nodes, using that message,
when mouse button is released.

Strange listfunnel management of Nodes' output 

I've just started using MaxMSP and it produces random crackles and pops while playing sounds. I always hear a pop when I stop the sound. I don't hear these problems with any other audio app. I don't hear the noise when I play MaxMSP generated sounds from youtube or other sources, so my machine can play MaxMSP audio generated on other machines without problems. It is only when I generate sounds on my own machine that MaxMSP makes noise. I'm using the Sound Blaster PLAY! 3 USB DAC using the newest driver with all effects turned off on Windows 10. How can I fix this problem? I'm just trying to play a simple sine wave.

Hoping this is just the growing pains of a late model early adopter. I'm getting numerous crashes on a brand new M2, fresh copy of Max, different projects, almost nothing else installed on the machine, running on the built-in audio or an RME interface, with or without Rosetta. I'll attach some crash reports; I have a whole folder's worth that I'm collecting. I'm not an expert reading these, but it appears that it's the main thread going down every time. I'll admit that I'm not sure if this is a single problem or various problems depending on the project. Either way, Max is very far from stable on my machine and I'd love to get to the bottom of it.

I am having the same issue after updating to Mac OS 13.3.1.  Have you had any luck resolving this issue?

Yes, still crashing with a particularly complex patch. No crashing with simple patches. It's probably my shoddy patching. Still, I can't seem to decipher what the problem is with these crash logs. I think I'm looking at randomly removing sections of the patch and seeing if it crashes as the only way to solve.

Did these issues remain for you both? I just got the mini m2pro with 13.2.1 and now refraining from updating to 13.4...

yes, [s2m.wacom] has a 'nopointer' message that decouples the pen movement from the system cursor. I used the Intuos 3 with the [s2m.wacom] for a long time on my old machine and it worked very reliably. Be aware, though, that the current wacom driver doesn't support the Intuos 3 anymore. You might be lucky and find an old version that still supports it and works on your machine. (version 6.3.15-3 worked for me on an intel-based mac).
But there are still more troubles: 
Around the introduction of 'Catalina' security issues started to become a major problem. [s2m.wacom] couldn't communicate with the wacom driver anymore because automation processes, like sending Apple events, are blocked now by default. This renders messages like 'nopointer' non-functional. AFAIK this issue is still not resolved (at the moment I'm working on an updated version of [s2m.wacom] for arm64 (M1) and face the exact problem of blocked Apple events).

So i just dl this s2m.wacom object from https://metason.prism.cnrs.fr/Resultats/MaxMSP/ and it's loading in rosetta in max 8 ... but i didn't find any maxhelp file ... anyone have any idea for a maxhelp file?  (this s2m.wacom does not have the same number of outlets than the wacom.mxo object that is not loading "due to incorrect architecture") ...EDIT: Damn, i just realised that there is not device-ID outlet on this s2m.wacom... and i use two pen at the same time (picture in my presentation alexbart.org) ...Nobody knows if there is a way to use the older wacom.mxo on Monterey on macbookpro-M1 ? 🙏

The third argument to a read message to buffer~ doesn't work as documented here.  

It says "If the third argument is 0, buffer~ reads in the number of channels indicated in the header of the audio file."  

If my third argument to a read message to buffer~ is not 0 but rather -1, it works exactly as described.  If my third argument is 0,  it ignores the channel count of the file (I think it sticks to however the buffer was initialized). 

The way it does work is more consistent with other arguments used for many contexts including  
the same read message's  second (duration) argument whereby -1 has buffer~ matching its size to the file size.

(When my read messages weren't working with the 0 third argument, I just went through all the other integers until I found one that worked...  But seriously folks, my first bug report for Max in over a decade I'm sure, and it's good to be back)

And yeah, manual dial to float is bad with the mouse. It's just and illustration/simulation. The real thing is a hall effect sensor and an arduino.

Hiya, Max updates are always a full install so there is no need to pre-install other versions. Your snippets and Preferences shouldn't be affected in any way.

I am aware that you don't need previous versions, but if you have them: do you need to first uninstall them yourself or does the new installation do that for you?

👆this(you'll be given a choice when running the installer to either 'replace' the old version of Max, or install alongside(allowing you to keep newer versions alongside older ones)... but either way, as long as you open and work within the 8.1.6 version of Max, you'll have access to the latest/8.1.6 version of the 'mtr' object - you don't need to uninstall anything first)

I try to adapt [mtr] for parameter recording for non real time rendering in Jitter.
This means recording with 60 frames per second and output of recorded parameters on bangs that are send from the rendering logic (meaning not equidistant intervals).
How to achieve that?

The "next" message unfortunately doesn't work, because it is event based instead of time step based and so will not work with parameters that are not updated every frame during recording.

([mtr] would help  to overcome limitations of the Non-real time 4K recording patch in  https://cycling74.com/tutorials/best-practices-in-jitter-part-2-recording-1 ).

Edit: I mean my attempt with "playatms" followed by "stop" feels clumsy.


Hello Andrew, [mtr] especially the pattr-style binding seems to be quite buggy in Max 8.1.8.
I tried to make a parameter recorder for non real time rendering (e.g. 60fps recording and slow and non equidistant playback based on the speed of the rendering), in order to overcome limitations of this one https://cycling74.com/tutorials/best-practices-in-jitter-part-2-recording-1/ .
I would like to know if one can use [pattrstorage @subscribemode 1], [autopattr] in parallel to [mtr @bindto].
In the following example it looks like after binding the sliders to [mtr] the subscription to the [pattrstorage] objects gets lost. Is this a general limitation ?

@josh celli - Yes, replace unless you'd like to keep the old version around. In which case they can both co-exist.

I've just started using MaxMSP and it produces random crackles and pops while playing sounds. I always hear a pop when I stop the sound.

Did these issues remain for you both? I just got the mini m2pro with 13.2.1 and now refraining from updating to 13.4...
