I rarely use the tutorials in my own works, but use them a lot to help beginner Max users understand new concepts.

In Max 9 the Tutorials have been moved online. This is a problem if you work offline. But what is worse is that the tutorial patches have been moved. Inside the tutorials you must select "Download Series Assets", and then unzip "Max Tutorials.zip". Inside the tutorials, it says which patch to use. For instance in "Tutorial 1: Hello", it says "This tutorial references the patcher 01mHello.maxpat". You then go to the folder that you downloaded, search for "01mHello.maxpat", and open that patch.

In Max 8 you just press "Open Tutorial" inside Max, and the patch opens.

Hello all. I've been tinkering with Max for a few months now and am currently working through Giri/Cipriani's second EMaSD book, and while I'm coming up with a lot of small ideas, especially ones for sample manipulation, I still feel a little out of my element. For the past decade, I've played mostly guitar and synths in punk and experimental pop bands, and it was Fennesz and Jim O'Rourke who eventually made me ask myself "why am I not investing all my time in Max." So far, I've been having a wonderful time exploring ideas and trying to figure out some of the externals I've found, but I still feel a little... not at home, I suppose.

Are there any good examples of patches built for live instrumentation and improvisation? Something that could take a guitar signal, synth, or even vocals, and show me what kinds of ideas people have explored in that realm? I've discovered that most of my attempts to develop things in Max are still somewhat single-function and focused on modulating things I've build from the kslider or build around boring little loops. Are there any good links that anyone could provide me to more hands-on effects for live adc~ based stuff? Being so much more familiar with that side of performance, I'd like to try and build a little more knowledge from that direction.

Sorry if this is a super basic question. While I feel like I've learned a lot, I'm still putting the pieces together, and I feel like it would help to get my hands on more complex signals that are initially generate from outside max where I'm more familiar with them.

I have been using an XKeys XF-10 3-button USB foot pedal on a 2012-ish iMac / 10.13.6  for many years ands it works wonderfully. I often wonder why the creator gave us only two hands; the pedal fills the gap.

Therefore, I purchased one for my 2020 MinMac / 14.6.1 as well (from eBay) and downloaded the latest version of the programming software, ControllerMate, which purportedly supports OSX 14.

It doesn’t. Maybe it’s the OS, maybe the silicon. Messages to the company, p.i. engineering, so far fell on deaf ears.

So I built a patcher that accesses the pedal through the HID system and properly returns the buttonNr-dn/up data.

The issue is to translate the bang to a message to another app, e.g. sending “Cycling ’74” to the browser's search bar.

I suspect an AppleScript is called for, but I don’t know how to invoke an AppleScript from Max, nor do I have any idea what it should contain.

Attempts to accomplish this through shell met with no success so far.

beside making music with capacitive mushrooms driving karplus strong within a pi's RNBO export, I'm now focusing on a new feature for my late developments for a new a+v live performance.

Using OpenFrameworks for generative & procedural visuals is a strong way I already work with for many projects. I'm talking about agents drawing on the screens, different rules & contexts etc.

I built a small but efficient system for having different context, using OSC from Max for control purposes etc. Very cool.

Textures traveling through Syphon. Solid... on the paper side.

Actually, I cannot have a constant fps on Jitter's side and the classic (but sometimes too much theoretical) moving element from left to right is PERFECTLY drawn on OF side BUT on Jitter side... some subtle but visible stutter effect. I mean... the circle travel sometimes jitter a very bit at slow speed.
