A student used an LLM to populate a gen~ with an additive approach to plucked string synthesis.

It's a bit CPU-heavier than I'd like (well, kind of a lot CPU heavier, particularly if the goal is to introduce polyphony later).

An "elapsed" counter is initialized when a trigger signal is received ("prev <= 0 && now > 0"); otherwise, it's incremented by 1/sr. Then a loop drives it:

I'm leaving out a few details that are not relevant to the code structure.

I'm not sure of the relationship between the code box contents and the eventual llvm stuff, so I'm at a bit of a loss to suggest how to make it more efficient. If it were standard imperative code, I would perhaps cache the 'an' values and not do sin() every time, and replace the pow and exp with cascaded multiplications. Not sure how gen~ handles those.

i'm hoping to be able to construct a repeatable audiorate noise thing that I can drive with phasor and the like, but  I am drawing a blank in my fried lil' brain.

I am hoping to be able to do this simpler than scanning a random buffer, or stuffing a stash~, for instance.

I continue to chip away at my looper project and have learned a ton in the process, especially in regards to gen~. While the core functionality of said looper resides in the gen~ environment, a lot of the control and clock synchronization exists in the MSP realm, including my rudimentary Live transport sync. And this brings me to my question...

Is there a way to create sample-accurate Live transport sync entirely within gen~? Along the lines of what [phasor~ @lock 1] does?

I am currently using a phasor~ object in MSP, locked to the Live transport, which I am piping into my gen~ subpatcher where I convert the phasor to pulses - giving me a clock - and then execute certain actions on these clock pulses.  The actions need to be sample accurate. 

For the most part it is working, but there is some inconsistency in the clock that I am deriving from the phasor~ output. These inconsistencies correspond with the vector size in max4live - 64 samples. Thus, the actions I am triggering in my gen~ patch are occasionally 64 samples late. This is a deal breaker. 

From what I understand, audio signals going from the MSP environment into a gen~ subpatcher are still bound by the vector size of the host, and I suspect this is the explanation for the occasional 64-sample inconsistencies, as the phasor~ signal exists in the MSP environment and needs to be passed to the gen~ subpatcher.

I could create the phasor entirely within gen~, yeah, but then I still rely on plugsync~ to tell me when the transport starts or stops (and what beat I am on to track downbeats.) Therefore I will still be at the mercy of the vector size, for if plugsync's "transport started" signal is delayed by the vector size, so will the sync of my phasor. Square one.  

I am kinda stumped here. Is there a way I can read Live's transport info from

I made an analog like day with gen~, following a great tutorial on YouTube. In this gen~, there are 2 other gen sub patches. I saved every gen and gen~ in a folder called "delay", and put it in the max path. 

When I copy the gen~ in a patch, it works only if the first patch (the one I used to do the tutorial) is open, otherwise it passes the sound but without any effect. It's very annoying as of course, some strange behavior appears like you play something in a patch and it bleeds to the other etc... Is there a way to save this gen~ patch somewhere and re-use it as many times I want with just copying it?
