I am trying to achieve some flexible techniques for alpha masking using jit.gl.bfg as an example input for the grayscale texture inside a jit.gl.pix.

One of the grayscale texture color channels should be used for the alpha channel of an input texture (image or generative compositing).

What I want to achieve : at a certain threshold e.g. 0.5, I want the given "grayscale & upcoming alpha" values to falloff very quickly, but nevertheless smooth enough preventing staircases to occur - which currently happens in the most simple implementation (no smoothing) in the attached patcher.

At least I guess the staircases that become visible in the jit window are caused by this abrupt value changes when using perlin or simplex noise in the jit.gl.bfg.

Theoretically I could think of using the threshold implementation in the jit.gl.pix as in the attached patcher and appending a Gaussian blur after that, but that does not feel right.

Or in other words : I am looking for a gen based solution inside the given jit.gl.pix that gives my room for creative variation like modulating parameters with jit.motion and alike ... and conceptually I think about something in the lines of an audio filter with variable "db per octave".

Easing functions using exponential logic (like in the ease package) have a similar behavior, but currently I have no clue how to integrate them (although the functions are also available in GenExpr format).

The second patcher shows a function with a simple fall off at a threshold (at 0.5) to make it obvious what I am aiming for and the image is screenshot of it.

I am trying to have parameters of a vst moving randomly. It is actually ok, the parameters jump from one value to another. Now I want it not to jump but ramp from one value to another.

I use a 'line' object, it seems to work, but passing through a 'pack' seems to cancel the 'line'.

If I find myself confronted with error messages in the max Window when opening a project etc. :

 action it is possible to open the patch and marking the object that caused the error.

But if I need the parent patch of the currently open window in order to examine further how to open/find that?

If it's an abstraction at least I have the name of the abstraction, if its an unnamed subpatcher It only tells me that.

I currently use a little js snippet containing

function bang(){this.patcher.parentpatcher.front()}

But that is cumbersome , especially if I need to traverse up further. Is there a better way to open th Parent Patch of the current patchwin and mybe even select the obj box?

maybe it's a stupid question, but I wanted to have clarifications about the jit.lcd color message. In the description it says "set the current pen color to the value specified by the color index argument". I don't understand which colors it refers to since you can't put more than one value and can't put 3 values like an RGB or similar. Does it refer to a color palette? If so, how to see it and change it?

Sorry, dunno where to post feature suggestions so I apologize if this is in a wrong category/place.

I have always thought panning controls are severely missing in Max. It's so common and natural to use in software with canvases such as Max. I think it's a relatively trivial feature to implement with a significant UX benefit.

I often catch myself trying to use middle click to pan because I am so used to it from many other apps.

I wanted to share with you all an external project that I have been working on for the past 9 months or so call rtneural_plugin:

This project is designed to be a real-time safe, general use-case neural inferencing engine (using the open source RTNeural inferencing engine) that runs at both audio rate and control rate. It is cross platform and runs in pd, max, and sc. 

All training is done in python. Any rtneural shaped network should be able to be loaded. See Jatin's RTNeural repository [here](

I'm working on a kind of spectrum visualiser. I'm using a multichannel FFT to get a range of signals at each frequency bin and display them in a kind of wave table form. In the jit.gen patch I had to separate each plane of the input matrix using the swiz operator but I'd like to be able to do this dynamically so I can use FFT's with higher resolutions without needing to add a bunch more swiz operators. 

I tried using javascript but it slows down the render rate too much. Can it be done at all?

Is there a way for my controller to be recognized when I export my RNBO patcher as an instrument? Everything works perfectly under MAX but the AU plugin generated does not take into account the commands of my controller, the sliders created work independently of the action of my controller although I specified the different @ctlin in my param objects.

Hi all, I'm building a modal synth engine using mc versions of resonant filters, and everything is sounding great so far, but I tried adding some modulation to the filter frequencies for a bit of extra dimension. However, due to the high resonance, any modulation above a certain frequency tends to cause the filter to explode. 

What is happening here, and how can I prevent it? So far I've tried biquad~, lores~, as well as rolling my own in gen~ from the examples provided in Max, and all of them have the same issue. The only filter seemingly without such issue is the Moog ladder filter example in gen~, but I'd rather not use that as I'd like to keep things open for potentially porting to other platforms.

I could probably get away with changing the resonant filters into sine waves and treat it more like an additive synth, but ideally I'd like to use this technique in a more typical subtractive synth format as well, as filter FM at high resonance is one of my favourite things to do with analog synths (and even with digital synthesis back when I had a Nord Modular).
