I want to use max to do some live signal processing.  I'd like to control it with some foot pedal devices. I don't currently have a lot of experience with footswitches and expression pedals.

I thought I'd be able to find a MIDI Expression pedal on Sweetweater easily, but it looks like all the expression pedals have a TRS cable.  There is a USB one that is much more expensive.

I was wondering, what could Max do with a TRS Expression Pedal?  Could I plug it into my audio interface and have Max read it as a signal from -1 to 1?

Even the footswitches have TRS out.    What will the output of these devices look like as a signal in Max?

Basically I'm looking for a foot button I can use to trigger taps for a tap delay.  And an expression pedal I can use to control volume.  

Since I have max skills, I'd rather build a max patch than buy a dedicated delay pedal.  I just need the appropriate hardware so I can control max with my feet on stage.

I’m very new to MaxForLive and not very experienced in programming, so I’d greatly appreciate any help with creating a simple device. Here’s what I’d like to achieve:

I want a MaxForLive device with a visible 

 object that allows me to set numbers from 1 up to 40. This number should correspond to Arrangement Locators / Queue Markers in Ableton.

Each Locator should correspond to its respective number (Locator 1 = 1, Locator 2 = 2, etc.) in the Arrangement view.

If I open this device, and then drag a file onto the drop file, so that the message box gets populated, and then save the device, Ableton will crash every single time. It seems like when the readfolder message is sent to polybuffer~ when the device is saved, that this causes Ableton to crash.

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Hi! My students and I have run into the same problem. [polybuffer~] is unusable in  Max for Live. When saving a device, Live crashes.

I think it happens specifically when a polybuffer~ is automatically filled with the "readfolder" message, executed by a live.thisdevice.

Anyone else noticed this behaviour?

not to dig up an old thread but yes, readfolder with polybuffer crashing max4live, curiously only in live11 and not in live10 for me. 

tried to load up an old patch and whittled it down to polybuffer 

Just experienced the same thing with Ableton 11.1.1. Still nothing solved with this? 
What did you guys use instead to avoid the crash?

“It looks like I can stop the crashing if I give an initial second argument to [buffer table] inside your mc.gen~.

For example, [buffer bar table.1] inside mc.gen~ and then in [p wavespread], you could have the message "set value $1 bar $2"

If I set it up in this way, I can set which buffer of the polybuffer~ each voice of the mc.gen~ is using, and I don't get a crash.

Since years, I am a Supercollider user but quite a newb on Max (I just know to do basic patches).  This Iast month I used the Flux Spat Revolution plugin (demo) as an output spat/mixer for my Supercollider codes and this workflow was great and fluid. I created a MIDI delay patch in Max for Live, where the notes are delayed in milliseconds through pipe objects, and these delays are linked to the master tempo. However, I always felt that my grooves weren't very consistent. While doing a recording test, I realized that the delayed notes weren't perfectly aligned and were being played slightly early or late.

I did the same thing with Ableton Live's track delay: I play the line offset by xxx milliseconds, and when I record the result, it seems much more stable. Unfortunately, using such a system complicates my patch a lot and gives me much less global control.

Do you have any ideas on how to better stabilize this MIDI delay rhythmically?

I made a patch on Max4Live which is basically a slideshow of images using textureset, triggered by a MIDI input (one note = next image).

It works perfectly fine in Max, however when I try to capture it, whether it is through Spout/OBs or simply OBS, a whole lot of frames are skipped (not in Max, but in OBS viewer and the resulting video).

I froze all my tracks (except the Max4Live MIDI trigger one), closed all my apps, trying to make sure all my computer resources are dedicated to this, yet it still doesn't work.

Or is just my computer too slow ? It is an Asus Zenbook 13, with an 11th Gen Intel Core i7 with 8 CPUs, 32 GB of RAM, and an Intel Iris Xe Graphics card.

Hey all, I have here a max patch that converts audio to MIDI. The Gain object is acting like a threshold and when audio is played, it will distinguish the next step in my simple sequencer. 

I would like to quantise the MIDI that is produced but am having trouble identifying where in the chain I can insert my metronome I have also created with different beat divitions.

Hi all! I am running a video installation with pressure sensors from an Arduino triggering specific video clips. When they are not being triggered, I have a blank video clip that plays instead. However, sometimes the videos get stuck. They will trigger on but not turn off until I click the read message for the black video. Vice versa, the opposite will happen where the videos trigger initially, but then after a while, the videos stop triggering. This is resolved when I click the video files read messages. I have tried routing the bangs to the read messages and then to the jit.movie, but this causes Max to crash eventually. I'm a newbie to Max/MSP/Jitter and would appreciate any feedback about how to fix this issue or how to streamline/edit my patch in a more efficient way. Thanks in advance for your help! 

FYI, I am using Max 8.6.4 on a Mac Mini M2 16 GB Sonoma 14.6.1 if any of that is helpful info.
